The fellowship is a part of the Global Mind Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space. The objective of the fellowship programme is to promote research cooperation and enable outstanding researchers to carry out cutting-edge research in Germany.

The programme is inviting applications from outstanding postdoc researchers and experienced researchers from all around the world (except Brazil & Germany) for a research stay of 6-24 months in Germany. The fellowship offers an immersive research experience through collaboration with a host at a German Research institute of your choice. The fellowship is open to all academic disciplines; applicants from all academic backgrounds are invited to submit applications.

The programme awards a total of 700 fellowships annually, making it one of the biggest fellowship programs for international researchers. The programme covers all the costs related to their research stay, the coverage includes a competitive stipend, medical insurance, round-trip airfare, family allowance, and more. Eligiblity Criteria

Applicants meeting the following criteria are invited to submit their applications:

  • Post-Doctoral Researchers: Applicants who have completed a PhD within the last 4 years
  • Experienced Researchers: Applicants who have completed their PhD degree within the last 12 years with an established academic profile.
  • Accepting applications from all nationals except German and Brazilian Nationals
  • Individuals need to propose a well-defined project that needs to be carried out in Germany
  • Proficiency in the English or German language
