What could be better than conducting research in one of the leading research institutes in South Korea, known for its excellence in science and technology, as an intern this summer? One of the most highly anticipated research internships for international students in South Korea is now available! The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology has announced the opening of applications for its flagship “GIST Global Internship Program 2026″ and invites applications from talented students worldwide. The internship offers undergraduate and graduate students 8 weeks of research stay at GIST, South Korea, during which they gain hands-on experience while conducting real-time research alongside the renowned faculty in world-class research settings.

The objective of the GIST internship is to attract outstanding students and provide research exposure in world-class research facilities. GIST is a science and technology institute, so the research projects are usually offered in STEM fields. Students in Engineering, Natural Science, Life Science, Advanced Technology, and related fields are invited to submit an application. The internship will commence in July 2026. No application fee requirement at any stage of the application process; interested students must submit their applications by February 27, 2026. Who can Apply?

Individuals meeting the following criteria are invitied to submit applications for the GIST internship:

  • GIST is accepting applications from all nationalities
  • Students currently enrolled in undergraduate & graduate degree programs
  • Undergrad students must be in the 3rd or final year of their degree program
  • Pursuing their degrees from an accredited institute
  • Demonstrate excellent academic achievements GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Profiency in the English language
  • English test exemption for individuals from English-speaking countries and those who are currently pursuing their degree in English-medium institutes
