Here is an exciting fellowship opportunity that you should not miss! The East-West Center has announced a call for applications for the “Jefferson Fellowships 2026”. For those who are familiar with this program, let us give you a brief overview. It’s a fully funded 3-week study and reporting program on leveraging news media to enhance public knowledge of cultures, issues, and trends in the Indo-Pacific regions, designed for full-time journalists from the Asia Pacific region.
This year, the program centers on the theme of “New Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence: Navigating AI’s Impacts on Societies & Economic Security in the Asia Pacific Region.” Under this theme, the fellows will explore the challenges and opportunities posed by Artificial Intelligence in the Asia Pacific Region or beyond. To all the journalists out there, this opportunity is your chance to enhance your skills, deepen your knowledge, and connect with leading researchers, NGO, and leaders in government leaders from across the world.
The fellowship also offers first-hand AI exposure through visits to health-care centers, labs, AI manufacturing facilities, and chip makers. The duration of the fellowship program is 3 weeks and will take place in Tokyo, Honolulu, and South Korea from October 25 to November 12, 2026. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants meeting the following criteria are invited to submit their applications:
- Calling applications from full-time journalists in Indo-Pacific regions
- Must possess a minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in journalism
- Commit to full-time in-person participation during fellowship dates
- Profiency in the English Language
*Preference will be given to the journalists working in the areas relevant to the fellowship theme

Fellowship Coverage
The full scholarship offers the following support to the fellows:
- International Travel coverage to and from the participant’s home country
- Lodging support in each country
