The Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law & International Law in Germany, known for its excellence in the fields of International Law, European law, and comparative law, has recently announced its flagship Max Planck MPIL Internship program 2026 and invites outstanding individuals from EU and non-EU countries to apply.

The internship is designed for students currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program in law or related disciplines such as international relations, European affairs, political science, or relevant fields. PhD students are not eligible to apply.  The MPIL internship is highly competitive; top students with excellent academic achievements will be considered.

The minimum duration of the internship is 4 weeks, and the maximum is 12 weeks, during which participants will have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research and develop academic legal skills in international and European law and comparative public law. This program is an ideal opportunity to gain practical work experience at one of the leading institutes while improving professional skills and building a professional network for career paths. Who can Apply?

  • Accepting applications from both EU & Non-eu Nationals
  • Students enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, or law degrees in relevant fields
  • Relevant fields include law, Political Science, EU Studies, Public Policy, International Relations, Philosophy, and related fields
  • PhD students are not eligible to apply
  • Demonstrate excellent academic standings
  • Interested in International and comparative law
  • Demonstrate interest in carrying out research
  • Fluency in the English language
  • Must be computer literate

Who cannot apply?

  • Students enrolled in a PhD degree programme
  • Students in fields not relevant to the program
  • Applicants who are not enrolled in the degree program
