Applications are invited for the OIST Research Internship Program 2027. A fully funded research internship in Japan for international students, hosted by the Okinawa Institute of Science & Technology, offers outstanding undergraduate and graduate students a 3-6-month research stay, providing hands-on research experience while contributing to real-time research in a world-class international environment. The OIST internship is seeking applications from students currently enrolled in the final 2 years of a bachelor’s degree or in any year of a graduate degree program, with an academic background appropriate to the desired host research unit at OIST. Each year, OIST offers 2 application rounds for the internship: 1 Fall Round and 2 Spring Rounds. About the OIST Internship Programme
The internship is a flagship initiative of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology that offers students exposure to advanced scientific research through participation in ongoing projects at the institute. Selected interns are matched with a research unit based on their academic background and research interests and work alongside leading faculty and researchers. Internship Coverage
As we discussed earlier, it’s a fully funded internship in Japan. The program offers the following support to participants:
- Round-trip airfare coverage to/from Japan

- A daily allowance of 2,400 JPY to cover your living expenses
- Visa support

Who can Apply?
You must fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for the internship:
- OIST welcomes applications from all nationalities
- Currently enrolled in the final two years of the undergraduate degree
- Pursuing their master’s degree in any year
- Have recently graduated with a master’s or bachelor’s degree
- Your academic background must be relevant to the chosen research unit
- Obtain an approval letter from the host institute
- Demonstrate a strong interest in research
- PhD students are not eligible for the program
