British Academic International Fellowships 2026 in UK (Fully Funded)

To all the early-career researchers seeking paid research opportunities abroad, Applications for one of the most anticipated British Academic International Fellowships are now open for the academic year 2026. Funded by the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology and jointly managed by the British Academy and the Royal Society, this program is calling applications from outstanding early-career researchers from across the world to work for two years at one of the participating research institutions in the United Kingdom, including University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the University of Edinburh and many more.

The objective of the British Academy Fellowship is to attract and support talented early-career researchers to establish their research in the United Kingdom. The program is intended for candidates who are in the final stages of their PhD or have completed their PhD in humanities, social sciences, or related fields with no more than five years of postdoctoral research experience. The fellowship offers generous support, including a competitive salary, research allowance, relocation support, and other perks and benefits.

The fellowship is accepting applications from all nationals, except those who hold UK nationality. No application fee is charged at any stage of the application process. The fellowship offers generous support to fellows, which includes:

Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the following criteria to apply:

  • Accepting applications from all nationalities
  • UK Residents are not eligible to apply
  • Completed your PhD or are in the final stages of the degree programme
  • Completed or pursuing a degree from a non-UK institution
  • Academic background must be in the social sciences, humanities, or related fields
  • Have not more than 5 years of postdoctoral research experience
