The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is pleased to announce the call for expressions of interest for the FAO Regular Volunteer Programme 2026 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The Program is designed for young individuals who want to contribute to food security, agriculture, and other areas within FAO’s framework through volunteering. The programme is open to individuals from FAO member states who are 18 years or older.
The programme lasts up to 6 months, during which selected volunteers will gain practical work experience in an area connected to FAO’s work under the supervision of FAO professionals. The program does not require an application fee. The application deadline is December 31st, 2026.

About FAO Volunteer Programme
It’s a 6-month volunteer opportunity designed for individuals from FAO member states to support FAO’s work and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through volunteerism. Selected volunteers will be placed at FAO HQ in Rome, where they will be assigned to a field related to the organization’s work under the supervision of an assigned FAO supervisor.
Who can Apply?
Candidates meeting the following criteria are invited to apply:
- Be a national of an FAO member state.
- Be 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Have completed secondary school education.
- Know at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish).
- Knowledge of a second language would be an asset.
- Able to work in a multicultural work environment.
- Have relevant work or research experience in one of FAO’s working domains.
- Excellent communication skills.
