Application call for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2025! As the name suggests “Globalink” is Globally linking students from every corner of the world to the research landscape of Canada!

MITACS Gobalink offers fully funded 12-week summer internships in research projects related to Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Humanities, and Social Sciences. 70 participating Canadian universities host the internships in collaboration with Mitacs. All international students pursuing bachelor’s or combined undergraduate/master’s degrees in relevant fields in Mitac’s partner countries are eligible to apply. The funding shall cover travel, housing, living expenses, research projects, events, and conferences.

The research internship at Mitacs Globalink is highly competitive. Undergraduate international students from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Pakistan, Taiwan, Tunisia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, and the United States are selected each year for the Globalink Mitacs Cohort.

International applicants can apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of 10 research projects offered by the participating universities, Applicants are assessed based on their overall application, enthusiasm, and responsiveness, as well as their ability to contribute to the Mitacs mission of driving innovation ecosystems If they are successful, they will be nominated to Mitacs. The final selection is done by Mitacs for the 12-week research project that spans from May to October.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age at the time of applying for the Mitcas Globalink research internship.
  • Enroll in a full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master’s program at a qualifying institution. The official website categorizes eligible institutions by country.
  • Applicants’ graduation date must fall between fall 2025 and spring 2027. The requirements for your country of study vary, so check them.
  • Each international partner country, Mitcas, has specific GPA requirements.
  • English or French language proficiency.
  • Applicants can apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of ten projects, provided they select the internship location from three different Canadian provinces.
  • Applicants must be available to complete an internship lasting 12 consecutive weeks.

Note: There are additional partner eligibility requirements for the 2025 cohort of students applying for Globalink research internships. While applying, applicants must go over the requirements according to their country of origin.

 Ineligibility:

  • All applicants will be ineligible to apply for Mitcas funding if they have already worked with or received funding from certain institutions (listed as NROs).
  • The applicant cannot have previously received a Globalink Research Internship project award.

Selection Process & Timeline – Mitacs Globalink 2025

Phase 1. Faculty application (April-June) 

Different research faculties from top-ranked Canadian universities submit their research projects to Mitacs.

Phase 2. Student application (August-Sept)

International students select research projects and submit their applications.

Phase 3. Matching: (Nov-Jan) 

Professors evaluate the applications. Mitacs finalizes offers to students.

Phase 4: Pre-internship preparation (February-April) 

Selected candidates start working with their respective host professors. Mitacs overseas logistics.

Phase 5: Internship (May-Oct) 

Globalink research interns arrive in Canada for their 12-week research project.

Application process:

Step 1. Choosing the project:

  • Please review the eligibility criteria multiple times to comprehend the requirements. the general and specific eligibility criteria will depend on your country of origin.
  • You must be an enrolled student in one of the universities listed in the (GRI) 2025, eligible universities list
  • Start your application by listing the projects in the total range of 2000-3,000.
  • Candidates can choose from a minimum of three and a maximum of ten programs. Select the project with the highest likelihood of selection.
  • Each project has specific skill requirements. Choose the one that best fits you.
  • All the project activities that Applicants shall perform are mentioned, check that out to have a detailed insight.
  • Some projects have a very flexible schedule, making it ideal for students who have difficulty aligning the internship with their semester break so that they can choose accordingly.
  • In case of any confusion, applicants can discuss with the HODs regarding the internship whether they will allow a full attendance break or not.
  • While interest is the main criterion for choosing a project, make sure it aligns with your academic background.
  • Once you have made your decision, communicated with others, and acknowledged everything, begin the process of registering yourself.

Step 2. Registration with MITACS:

  • Fill out all the personal details and create an account.
  • Log in, navigate to the application tab, and start your application. Your passport will only be needed after selection, not during the application process.
  • Put in all the details required and provide a general overview of your skills, background knowledge, and research interests.
  • Showcase your achievements in your academic field, highlighting all the positive aspects of your personality.
  • Send in a reference letter (the official website provides a template).
  • Go to the project sections that you’ve chosen. Once you click on “Apply”, the projects will begin to appear in your application.
  • Arrange the projects based on their priority.
  • Upload all the required documents (as mentioned above).
  • Click on save, and your application is in progress.
  • You can make changes up until the deadline; your application shall automatically be submitted after the deadline is over.
