A prestigious scholarship program funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, managed by HEC, offers an incredible opportunity to the nationals of Pakistan who wish to pursue their Master’s & PhD degree programs in one of the leading higher education institutions of the United Kingdom. The objective of the Commonwealth Scholarship is to support deserving students who cannot afford to study in the UK, providing them with the skills, knowledge, and valuable networks necessary to tackle global development challenges. Since 1960, the CSC has funded over 30,000 students to study in the United Kingdom, making it one of the biggest scholarship programs in the UK.

The application process is online; interested applicants need to submit their application by October 15th, 2025 (Pakistan Standard Time). Late submissions of applications won’t be entertained. Read more details about the scholarship below.

Scholarship Coverage:

The Commonwealth scholarship offers comprehensive support, such as:

  • A monthly stipend of £1,347/Month for Master’s students
  • A monthly stipend of  £1,236/Month for PhD degree students
  • Full tuition fee Waiver
  • Thesis grant
  • Air travel tickets
  • Allowance for Study Tours
  • Allowance for fieldwork
  • Family allowance is also granted

Eligibility Criteria:

HEC Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a national of Pakistan
  • Pakistani nationals holding dual nationality are not eligible
  • For a master’s scholarship, you must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • For a PhD scholarship, you must hold a Master’s/MPhil/MS in a relevant field
  • Have not secured second or third division in the last degree
  • Results awaiting applicants can apply
  • Applicants must take the HAT test and achieve a minimum score of 60 out of 100.
  • Applicants who have already taken the HAT test on or after October 16, 2023, can upload the test on the HEC portal
  • Without the HAT test, applications will not be entertained

Commonwealth Scholarship Criteria:

  • Applicants must start their academic studies in the UK by September 2026
  • Outstanding students are unable to afford their education in the UK
  • Provide full details of all higher education qualifications, including transcripts
  • References from at least 2 individuals

For PhD Candidates

  • Must not be enrolled in a PhD or MPhil leading to a PhD at any home or UK institute
  • Provide a supporting statement from a proposed supervisor in the UK

Applicants who are interested in the HEC Commonwealth scholarship need to submit an online application on the HEC online portal and the CSC’s Online application portal.

  • After completing your profile, select “Learning Opportunities Abroad”. Once you apply, take out its printed copy.
  • All candidates must update their HEC profile, e.g, Email/Cell Number and information.
