HKBU International Writers Workshop 2026 (IWW) in Hong Kong

To all the young, passionate writers out there, we are here with the final call. The application deadline for the HKBU International Workshop 2026 is closing soon. If you somehow missed this prestigious international opportunity, you still have time to apply. For those who are not familiar with this program, we would like to provide a brief introduction. A fully funded annual residence program hosted by Hong Kong Baptist aims to promote culture and literary exchange between Hong Kong and international communities. The International Writer Workshop (IWW) is inviting applications from all international writers (currently residing outside Hong Kong) to apply.

The duration of the IWW workshop is 4 weeks, scheduled to take place in Hong Kong Baptist University (HBKU) from March 2-29, 2026. The Workshop revolves around an exciting theme of “Here and There,” which means “where you are now” and “where you came from”, and how these places affect your thoughts, feelings, and stories. The workshop was founded in 2004. Since its inception, it has hosted over 150 writers from all around the world. The residence program covers all the costs related to the workshop, such as air travel coverage, Accommodation, and A per diem stipend/day. There is no application fee required to apply for the workshop; the application process is quite simple. We encourage all passionate writers to apply. The last date for application submission is September 7th, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in this writer’s residence program, you must fulfill the following criteria:

  • The IWW workshop is open to all nationals (except Hong Kong)
  • Applicants must have published at least one book
  • Have excellent command of either English or the Chinese Language
  • Passionate about writing

Coverage

The program offers the following support to the residents:

  • Round-trip air travel coverage to/from Hong Kong
  • 1 Month Accommodation in HBKU’s Campus
  • A daily stipend of per diem

Programme Requirements

  • The participants must commit to attending the entire program
  • Participate in the welcome ceremony during the first week
  • All residents have to participate in the Literary Festival during the final week

Required Documents

  • An updated CV or Resume
  • Contact information of two referees, including their emails
  • A one-page Artist statement that describes their work and writing goals in either English or the Chinese language
  • Twelve to fifteen pages of the artist’s recent work, such as drama, fiction, graphic form, digital writing, etc
  • The above-mentioned application material needs to be converted into a single PDF file.

The application submission is quite simple; you just need to send your application material in a single PDF file to the email address iww@hkbu.edu.hk by September 7th, 2025. The result announcement will be made in October 2025.
