The Honjo Foundation Scholarship 2024 is offering Master’s & PhD degree programs for international students who will or have attended graduate school at Japanese institutes.
The Honjo Foundation will grant scholarship amounts at the start of the graduate school e.g. in September or October 2024. Currently, the applications are open for the Fall session. All students who are interested in pursuing their higher education in Japan are highly encouraged to apply for the Honjo International Foundation Scholarship.
A total of 5 scholarships will be granted under this program. The scholars have to participate in the events that the foundation organizes and also actively participate in the foundation’s events after completing their degree.

Eligibility Criteria:
- All foreign nationals are invited to apply
- Japanese nationals are not eligible
- Applicants enrolled in September or October 2024 or applying for the course that is starting in September or October 2024 are eligible.
- Students applying for Professional graduate programs are not eligible to apply however if they can submit a research plan then they are eligible.
- You have to have a strong desire to serve your country.
- The degree enrollment duration should not exceed 12 months.
- You need to be well-versed in the concept of worldwide friendship.
- You must know the basic Japanese language.
Age Eligibility:
- Thirty years old is the appropriate age for a master’s degree.
- A PhD candidate should be at least 35 years old
Scholarship Coverage
The scholarship will be awarded each month for the bare minimum of time needed to complete the degree.
The scholarship amount varies according to the following period:
- An amount of ¥210,000 a month for one to two years of school
- An Amount of ¥190,000 a month for three years of school
- An Amount of ¥160,000 a month for four to five years of education
*The travel grants to participate in the international conferences will be covered.

Application Deadline
The last date for the submission of the application for the Hanjo Foundation scholarship program for the fall session is 30th April 2024.

- Complete the application and attach the necessary paperwork and documentation.
- Upon submission of the required paperwork, you will receive an application number and a PDF version of your application.
- When the results are announced on our website, please save the PDF file, as you will need it.

Documents Requirement:
- Applicant photo (Max size 500KB) in JPG or gif file.
- A 2-minute video regarding your research plan (Length 2 min) should not exceed 1 GB size in .mp4 or .mov format.
- Make sure your face is visible while recording a video.
- Academic Transcripts (English or Japanese Language)
- Research Proposal
- Recommendation letter from supervisor
- Documents that prove admission, such as an admission letter, a letter of acceptance, etc.
