Selected trainees will serve as an Associate in the ICRC Legal Division for 1 year at its Headquarters in Geneva from February 2026.

ICRC offers market-competitive salaries to its trainees to cover their living costs, such as accommodation, meals, transport, and other related expenses. Trainee Roles

Who can Apply?

Applicants fulfilling the following criteria are eligible for the ICRC Traineeship:

  • Accepting applications from both EU citizens
  • Applicants holding a bachelor’s degree in International Law
  • Applicants holding a master’s degree in Public International Law
  • Have excellent knowledge of IHL, obtained through courses
  • Possess one year of professional work experience in international law
  • Fluent in the English language
  • Knowledge in one of the following areas of public international law: International Human Rights Law, International Refugee Law, International Criminal Law, Disarmament Law, the Law of Treaties, or arbitration.

Preference is given to:

  • Applicants with an interest in humanitarian work
  • Have excellent writing, analytical, and legal research skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
