About Fellowship
The Italy AOSIS Fellowship is a yearlong UN diplomatic training program specifically for professionals from small island developing countries. The program provides an opportunity for professionals to spend one year in New York and gain international experience in diplomacy and negotiation at the UN headquarters. The program aims to equip young leaders with the skills and knowledge to contribute to their governments on environmental protection and ocean matters.
Who can Apply?
Candidates meeting the following criteria can apply:
- Be a national of an AOSIS country
- Applicants must be 25–32 years old at the beginning of the fellowship.
- Must hold a degree in a relevant field such as International Relations, International Law, Environmental Studies, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, Fisheries, Ocean Affairs, Finance, Environmental Policy, Public Policy, or related fields.
- Have 1-3 years of experience in a national government or international organization.
- Have a strong academic background.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Interested in working on issues related to climate change, sustainable development, oceans, and international policy.
Fellowship Coverage
The selected fellows will receive the following support:
- Round-trip airfare support to and from New York
- A one-time settling-in allowance of $5000
- A monthly stipend of $5000
- A laptop for use during the fellowship
- Health insurance
- Additional allowance for international meetings
What will Fellows do?
During the year-long programme, fellows will:
- Work with their country’s Permanent Mission to the UN
- Participate in meetings and activities
- Attending training sessions
- Take part in international negotiations
- Work on climate and environmental diplomacy
- Develop knowledge of international law and diplomacy
- Support their country’s engagement in international processes
