Each fellow of the NED fellowship will recieve generous support for the duration of the program. The coverage includes:

1. Practitioner Track

The practitioner track of the fellowship programme is designed for practitioners from developing democracies and non-democratic states. Under this track, the fellows are expected to gain practical experience to promote human rights and democracy in their countries of interest.

Criteria

  • Accepting applications from mid-career professionals
  • The mid-career professional can be civil society leaders, political figures, activists, journalists, Lawyers, etc
  • Have demonstrable working experience in promoting human rights and democracy in home countries

2. Scholarly track 

The scholarly track is intended for university professors, scholars, and intellectuals holding a PhD degree and interested in conducting independent research on democratic development. The track is open for both US and non-U.S. nationals. Under this track, fellows are expected to complete an outline for publication and give a public presentation of their research.

Criteria:

  • Open for both US and non-US nationals
  • Minimum holding a PhD degree at the time of application
  • Applicants must demonstrate a proven track record in their fields
  • Have developed a research plan for the project

General Criteria

Below is the general criteria that are required for both the above tracks:

  • Have excellent English communication skills
  • Propose a research project focused on: social, economic, and legal aspects of democratic development.
