Applications are open for the NIH Summer Internship Program 2026. The National Institutes of Health, through its official portal, has announced its flagship SIP Internship and invites applications from passionate and talented students to conduct summer research in the Intramural Research Program at NIH. The SIP internship is designed for outstanding students in college, graduate, or professional school interested in biology, engineering, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, nursing, computer sciences, bioinformatics, or other health-related fields.
It’s a full-time research position; the minimum duration of the internship is 8 weeks, with a maximum of 12 weeks. During which Interns will gain hands-on research experience while working alongside one of the NIH research groups under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Beyond full-time intensive research, the interns will also have access to professional development programs, educational and career programming, and well-being and resilience programs. By the end of the program, interns will have an opportunity to present their research work at Summer Poster Day.
