Stanford’s School of Engineering offers a fully funded summer research program for talented undergraduate students, providing an 8-week research stay to conduct research at one of the world’s leading universities.
Stanford SURF 2027 is designed for undergraduate students interested in engineering and research who plan to pursue a PhD in the future. Selected participants will spend 8 weeks at Stanford University in California, USA, working alongside research groups, expanding their networks, receiving faculty guidance, and preparing for graduate school.
The Stanford SURF program covers all program-related costs, including transportation, lodging, and meals. Students will also receive a $6,000 stipend upon successful completion of the program. About Stanford SURF Program
Stanford SURF, also known as the Summer Undergraduate Research Program, is an 8-week immersive summer research program offered by Stanford University’s School of Engineering. It offers students the opportunity to gain practical research experience at Stanford while exploring Stanford’s graduate programs.
Beyond research, students will also take part in graduate school preparation, networking opportunities, guidance sessions, and community events.
The program strongly encourages applications from first-generation students, low-income students, and those who have limited access to research opportunities at their current institutions.

Selected participants will recieve following support
- A stipend of $6000 upon completion of the program
- Round-trip transportation costs
- Free accommodation during the program dates

Who can Apply?
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the summer research program:
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program
- Be pursuing your degree at an accredited public or private institution in the USA.
- Have an academic background in engineering or a related field.
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
- Have a minimum CGPA of 3.0.
- Have completed sophomore year (4 semesters of your degree).
- Have at least one semester or quarter of study remaining after program completion.
- Demonstrate interest in pursuing a PhD degree in engineering.
- Be available for the entire 8-week summer program.
- PhD and master’s students are not eligible to apply.
