To all aspiring undergraduate students in engineering seeking fellowship opportunities this summer to gain hands-on research experience, we are here with an exciting fellowship program hosted by one of the leading private research institutes in the United States that you should not miss. Applications are open for the Stanford University SURF Fellowship 2026. A fully funded Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), hosted by Stanford Engineering at Stanford University, USA, offers undergraduate students the opportunity to undertake cutting-edge research at one of the leading research institutes in the USA. An 8-week summer program that will bring 14 motivated undergraduate students to have an immersive research experience in the Stanford Engineering Lab group, from June 22, 2026, to August 14, 2026.

In addition to full-time research, participants will also engage in a graduate school preparation program, mentorship, research symposium, and community-building activities. The SURF fellowship is calling applications from non-Stanford undergraduate students currently pursuing their degrees in accredited institutions with an interest in pursuing their PhD degree in engineering fields. The programe is highly competetive, individuals with excellent academic standing are invitied to submit the applications.

Preference is given to students from first-generation/low-income backgrounds or those in a campus environment with limited access to research. No application fee is required to apply for the SURF fellowship; interested individuals must submit their applications by February 3rd, 2026.

Fellowship Coverage

Stanford covers all the costs of fellows related to the fellowship, which includes:

  • Cohort Meals

  • A stipend of 6000$ on fellowship completion

Eligibility Criteria

Stanford is inviting applications from individuals meeting the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree programme
  • Pursuing their degrees in Accredicted US institutes and colleges
  • Students must have completed 1 Year of their degree programme
  • Excellent academic standing with a minimum 3 or better GPA
  • Demonstrate interest in pursuing a PhD degree in Engineering
  • Age requirement: 18 years old at the time of application
