To all the young aspiring students who have successfully applied for the Stipendium Hungaricum 2026-27, this year’s selection will be competitive. According to the official source, the Stipendium Hungaricum has received applications from more applicants than ever! The scholarship programme has reached new heights by receiving a record number of applications this year. The Government of Hungary is truly obliged and impressed after receiving an overwhelming response from the students. You must be wondering how many applications were received in 2026/2027. Here is the number: a total of 113,806 applications have been received.
For those who are not aware of the scholarship programme, it’s one of the prestigious scholarship programmes for international students offered by the government of Hungary. The programme was established in 2013 to promote higher education institutions in Hungary and to attract talented students from across the world. The scholarship supports over 800 degree programs, making it an ideal option for international students to pursue bachelor’s, master’s, one-tier master’s, one-tier masters, and PhD degree programs in Hungary.
As the application window is closed and currenlty in the evaluation process, by February 2025, your home country sending partners will nominate the ideal candidates, and the nominated applications will be forwarded to the participating Higher education institutions for further evaluation. For now, all applicants are requested to keep an eye on the official website and social platforms to stay updated and have a clear overview of the upcoming steps.
Evaluation Steps & Timeline
Nomination & Technical Evaluation (January-February 2026)
- Documentation Check: This is the first stage of evaluation, where Tempus Public Foundation will perform an initial check to ensure all submitted documents are uploaded correctly.
- Nomination by Sending Partner: Ideal candidates are nominated by the sending partners based on their profile and on their own specified criteria
- Nomination Notification: Nominated candidates will be notified and will move to the next step.
Hungary Institutes Entrance Exams (March – May 2026)
- The chosen Hungarian Institute will contact nominated applicants to schedule an interview or test
- Applicants have to secure at least 56 out of 100 points to be considered for the scholarship
Final Result
- The final decision on the scholarship will be made by early July 2026.
