UNIDIR Graduate Professional Programme 2027 in Geneva (Paid)

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is pleased to announce the call for applications for the UNIDIR Graduate Professional Programme 2027 in Geneva, Switzerland. It’s a full-time, 6-month Graduate Professional position within its Integrated Approaches – Gender and Disarmament Programme, starting in November 2026. The programme is designed for recent graduates and graduate students interested in international peace, gender issues, disarmament, youth engagement, and United Nations work. Graduate professionals will receive a monthly stipend of USD 1,500 to cover living expenses in Geneva. No prior work experience is required, and there is no application fee. Who can Apply?

Candidates meeting the following criteria can apply:

  • Students enrolled in a graduate degree program (second university, equivalent or higher) or
  • Have completed their graduate-level studies at a recognized institute and, if selected, be able to start the program within one year of graduation.
  • No prior work experience required.
  • Preference is given to applicants with a postgraduate qualification relevant to youth and disempowerment issues, such as international relations, international law, and gender studies.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in the work of the United Nations.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of any other official UN language would be an asset.

Competencies

  • Strong research and presentation skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Canva or InDesign.

Graduate Professional Responsibilities

The selected professionals will support the Integrated Approaches – Gender and Disarmament Programme by:

  • Conducting background research.
  • Supporting meetings, workshops, conferences and field missions.
  • Helping with programme planning and implementation.
  • Supporting communication and coordination activities.
  • Assisting with administrative and other programme tasks.
