The University of Hong Kong, through its official portal, has announced its flagship Summer Research Programme and is seeking applications from outstanding students worldwide to participate and gain hands-on research experience at one of Hong Kong’s leading research institutes.
It’s a 10-week intensive research programme hosted by the University of Hong Kong Graduate School designed for the outstanding undergraudate and graduate students to conduct cutting-edge research in a wide range of research areas, including STEM, Medicine, Business, Social Sciences, and emerging fields like AI, Data sciences, etc., under the supervision of institute-leading faculty. The objective of the summer program is to provide students with firsthand research experience in state-of-the-art research facilities and exposure to the institute’s postgraduate research studies.
The research programme is highly competitive students with excellent academic achievement will be considered for the program. The host institute covers all the costs related to the programme, which we will discuss later in our coverage section. The application window for the research programme will open from January 9, 2026, and the last date for the submission of the application is February 9, 2026

Eligibility Criteria
- The HKU Summer program is accepting applications from all nationals
- Students currently in a bachelor’s or master’s degree at recognized institutes
- Bachelor’s students must be in the 3rd or 4th year of their degree programme
- Hold an excellent academic record
- Demonstrate a strong interest in research
- Excellent English communication skills
- No prior research experience required

Coverage
The institute offers generous support to the students for its summer program, which includes:
- International students will recieve travel allowance up to HK$5,000
- Upon completion of the program, participants will recieve HK$10,000 scholarship
- Accommodation support
- Top applicants will be awarded a conditional offer of the HKU Presidential PhD scholarship.
- Students will also get awards and prizes based on their research outputs and presentation
