To all the aspiring undergraduate students, do you want to make your summer 2026 valuable by undertaking research at one of the premier research institutes in Japan? Well then, pack your bags. You are one step closer to spending this summer in Japan. Applications are open for the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2026. It’s a flagship initiative of the “Amgen Scholars Foundation” that offers an opportunity to undergraduate students from different countries and regions to undertake intensive research at the University of Tokyo, Japan. Each year, the foundation provides 100 students with an opportunity to carry out scientific research projects at Leading Research institutes located in Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia. The University of Tokyo is among them.
The objective of the research internship programme is to provide undergraduate students with hands-on research experience while working on real-time scientific projects under the supervision of leading scientists. Students currently enrolled in the undergraduate degree programme and have an interest in considering their careers in biology or science-related fields are invitied to submit the applications. It’s an on-site 8-week research internship programme that will run from June 4, 2026, to July 31, 2026, at Utokyo, Japan.
Beyond full-time research, the internship also offers hands-on learning experience through special seminars, visits to the institute’s campus facilities, Japanese language courses, and excursions. Eligiblity Criteria
- Applicants must be pursuing a degree program across the Asia region
- Students enrolled in the undergraduate degree programmes can apply
- Students must have completed one year of their degree program
- Students must not graduate before the program begins

Financial Coverage
The Utokyo scholars program offers generous support to participants. The coverage includes:
- An off-campus accommodation provided by the host organization
- Economy class round-trip air travel coverage
- A stipend of 280,000 JPY for the duration of the program
The program does not cover
- Health & Travel insurance.
