The University of Tokyo Research Internship Program (UTRIP) is a fully funded internship for international students hosted by the Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo.
The UTRIP is inviting applications from students currently pursuing their bachelor’s degree programs in natural sciences or related fields. It’s an on-site full-time 8-week internship scheduled to take place from June 24 to August 4, 2026, at the University of Tokyo. The internship offers students the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge scientific research under the mentorship of renowned faculty members in state-of-the-art research facilities. No country restrictions, the UTRIP is accepting applications from all nationals.
The programme strongly encourages outstanding students with long-term career goals in the scientific areas to apply. The program does not charge an application fee. Eligiblity Criteria
UTRIP is accepting applications from applicants who meet the following criteria:
- UTRIP is open to all nationals
- Students currenly pursuing their bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or related fields from recognized institutes
- Students enrolled in an integrated bachelor’s/master’s degree may also apply
- Japanese nationals or students pursuing their degrees in Japanese institutions are not eligible
- Students must have completed one year of their bachelor’s degree
- Must commit 6 weeks of full-time participation
- Passionate about conducting research in natural sciences or related fields
- Students must have excellent academic records
- Return to their home universities for at least one term after completing the internship
- Language proficiency (IELTS or TOEFL) required if English is not your first language
- Language test exemption for students who have received an English medium education continuously for the past 8 years.
