To all the passionate writers out there seeking international programs, one of the most anticipated international writers’ residency programs in South Korea is now open for applications. Applications are invited for the “Wonju Literature Residency Program 2026.” It’s a fully funded residency program in South Korea, organized by Wonju UNESCO City of Literature in collaboration with Toji Cultural Centre, aimed at passionate creative writers from around the world who want to take time off to produce literary work while immersing themselves in Korea’s rich literary heritage. It’s an 8-week intensive residency program taking place at Toji Cultural Centre from September 1 to October 31, 2026.
The program is aimed at passionate writers who are connected to any of the UNESCO Cities of Literature network, such as Kraków, Edinburgh, etc. There are no country restrictions; applications are welcome from all nationals. Candidates must demonstrate interest in Korean literature and culture. The program covers round-trip airfare, transportation, accommodation, participation in cultural activities, and more. Objective
The objective of the Wonju City of Literature Writers program is to promote understanding between writers from different cities of literature, introduce global writers to Wonju’s Unique literary culture, and strengthen UNESCO’s vision of culture diplomacy.

Program Requirements
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the program:
- The residency program welcomes applications from all nationalities
- Passionate writers with a minimum of 5 years of creative writing experience
- Have at least one work published either in English or Korean
- Intermediate level Proficiency in English or the Korean Language
- Willing to attend the complete residency program during the dates
- Demonstrate interest in Korean culture & Literature
- Willing to participate in the Korean Local Literary Festival
