The application window for the JSPS Research Fellowship 2026-27 is now open. A prestigious fellowship program hosted by the Japan Society of Science (JSPS) is inviting applications from outstanding early-career researchers, pre- and post-doctoral researchers, to carry out research in all areas related to Social Sciences, Humanities, and natural sciences in reputed research institutes in Japan. A total of 120 fellowships will be awarded for the session 2026-27.
The duration of the fellowship is 1-12 months, an exciting opportunity for young overseas researchers to experience cutting-edge research in the leading Japanese universities under the supervision of renowned professors in their field. There is no country restriction for the fellowship candidates from all around the world who are invited to submit their applications. The fellowship covers all the costs related to the program the coverage including Air travel coverage, monthly stipend, overseas travel allowance, with other perks and benefits.

Fellowship Coverage
The JSPS fellowship offers comprehensive support, the coverage includes:
- Airfare: Round-trip air ticket
- Maintenance Allowance: Up to JPY362,000 per month
- Miscellaneous: Settling in Allowance of JPY200,000
Note: Candidates already living in Japan will not be provided with the Airfare and Settling-in Allowance.

Eligibility Criteria
- Hold a citizenship of a country that has diplomatic ties with Japan
- Candidates secured their doctoral degrees within six years of the duration of the fellowship.
- Not previously awarded the JSPS fellowship in Japan
- Japanese citizens are not eligible to apply
- Applicants must have an excellent academic record and achievements
