The MEXT scholarship is awarded to international students with excellent academic achievements recommended by APU. The MEXT scholarships offer two tracks for applications: 1) Embassy Recommendation, 2) University Recommendation. In this post, we are discussing the University Recommendation track. Unlike the Embassy track, this application route allows students to directly apply to the Asia Pacific University, and then the institute will nominate outstanding students to MEXT. To make it simple to be considered for the scholarship, you need to apply directly to the APY, and then APU will recommend the eligible candidates to the MEXT scholarship organization.

Scholarship Coverage
The Government of Japan offers comprehensive support to the MEXT scholars, which includes:
- Full Admission fee
- Tuition Fees Coverage
- Monthly Allowance of 144,000 JPY to cover living expenses
- Comprehensive medical support
- Stationery & Books Allowance
- Travel expenses, such as economy-class airfare coverage
Eligiblity Criteria
Applicants meeting the following criteria will be considered for the MEXT APU Scholarship:
- Applicants must be from a MEXT-designated country
- Willing to pursue their graduate degree program in Japan
- Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1991
- Have secured a GPA of at least 2.30 on a 3.00 scale
Minimum English Proficiency Requirement:

- IELTS 6.5
- TOEICR L&R Test 800
- PTE Academic 58
- Cambridge English 176
Ineligbility
- Persons currently serving in military duties are not eligible to apply
- Previously received MEXT Japanese Government scholarship recipients are not eligible, except for those with over three years of educational or work experience after completing the scholarship
- Must not have received any other scholarship
- Must hold a “Student” status of residence in Japan

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to apply for the MEXT APU scholarship:
