Applications are now open for the Western Balkans Meet Japan 2026–2027: A Bridge into the Future, a fully funded, 7-day cultural and academic youth exchange program organized under Japan’s MIRAI Program. The program will bring 13 undergraduate and graduate students aged 20 or older from the Western Balkans to Japan from January 20–26, 2027, to explore Japanese society and culture, learn about Japan’s experience in peacebuilding and reconciliation, engage in academic discussions, and build connections with young people from the region. The program is jointly supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO). About Program
It’s a fully funded youth exchange program that fosters cooperation between people from Japan and Europe. The program offers participants the opportunity to understand Japan beyond tourism. Students can learn about Japanese culture, society, peacebuilding, reconciliation, and international cooperation through discussions, cultural activities, and visits during their stay.

Who can Apply?
- Be enrolled in a bachelor’s, graduate, or PhD program
- Be 20 years old or older at the time of application.
- Hold a passport from one of the WB6 countries.
- Have a good command of English.
- Have good academic achievements
- You are interested in sharing information about Japan and its attractions.
- You have not lived in Japan.
- You have a valid passport.
