Scholarship Duration
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship scheme support is available for up to 3 years; however, the Lingan may provide the same level of fellowship support for a fourth year.
About Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme
It’s a prestigious fellowship scheme for international students, established by the Research Grants Council in 2009. The program aims to attract talented students from across the world to undertake full-time PhD studies at the participating Hong Kong universities.
For the 2027/28 intake, a total of 400 fellowships will be awarded at eight participating institutions, including Lingnan University.

Fellowship Coverage
The fellowship recipients will receive the following support:
- An annual stipend of HK$344,40
- An annual allowance of HK$14,400 to cover conference and research-related expenses
- Additional institute support for students who require more than 3 years to complete their degree
Additional Award
For the 2027/28 intake, the HKFPS awardees are also eligible to receive the LU Presidential PhD scholarship top-up package, which covers HK$40,000 per year, a full tuition fee waiver for the normative study period, eligibility to apply for the additional performance-based scholarship of up to HK$60,000 per year, and guaranteed hostel accommodation for 3 years.

Applicants interested in the fellowship must first submit an initial HKPFS application through the official Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme application portal. After submission, you will receive a reference number.
After receiving a reference number, you now have to submit your PhD application to Lingnan University through its official admission portal.
