Application call for the Japan Asia Pacific University MEXT (UR) Scholarship 2025! The Ministry of Education, Science, Sports, Culture and Technology Japan is offering a fully funded MEXT scholarship to international students who want to pursue a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in one of the renowned institutions of Japan. The MEXT scholarship is offered for the complete duration of the course, covering 100% admission and tuition fees, a monthly stipend of 144,000 JPY, and a two-way ticket from your home to APU, making it one of the highly competitive scholarships offered internationally.

Asia Pacific University, also known as Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, has a rich and diverse campus life with a diverse international student body from 168 countries. The current student demographics include:

Eligibility Criteria :

The eligibility criteria for the MEXT scholarship:

Undergraduate academic qualifications :

1. First-year students :

• Completed a 12-year standard education curriculum at an educational institution by the time of enrollment.

2. Transfer students :

International students from Bachelor’s or non-bachelor’s programs in their 2nd or 3rd year can also apply for the scholarship through APU(APU transfer student rules)

Graduate academic qualifications :

Have achieved a GPA of  2.30 on a 3.00 scale at their most recent university in any of the relevant fields.

General eligibility criteria :

• All International students with the pursuit of getting higher education in Japan.
• The International students must be nationals of MEXT -designated countries.
• Individuals who are 34 years old or younger (as of 2024) are eligible.
• English language proficiency test scores not older than March 22, 2023.
• International students must have “student” status of residence (visa status) in Japan. (while applying for application through APU)

Documents Required

Online Submission :

• Student ID card and photographs.
• Confirmation of residence at APU house
• PDF upload of the completed student health questionnaire.
• Additionally, complete the comprehensive insurance for the International student’s application (provided)

By post submission :

• Academic Transcripts (attested)
• University Graduation Certificates or Certificates of Scheduled Graduation.
• Certificate of employment.
• Copy of Valid passport.( If haven’t applied for student visa at the time of application)

Application Process :

Step 1: Apply through the APU Japan application portal:-

International students must apply through the APU application portal for the September 2025 enrollment. There is no need for another application to apply for the MEXT scholarship. https://admissions.apu.ac.jp/admissions/

Step 2: After a thorough review by the university, the selected students shall be recommended to MEXT.

Step 3:- Selected candidates are notified of the results of their final application so that they can prepare documents for the MEXT application to be submitted to APU.

Step 4:- The final scholarship award results are decided by MEXT.
