To all young scholars in the social sciences and humanities, do you want an immersive research experience at one of Sweden’s leading institutes? Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study is pleased to announce the call for applications for its flagship “Barbro Klein Fellowship Programme 2027-28.” A prestigious residential fellowship program hosted at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in Uppsala, Sweden, is designed for talented scholars in the humanities and social sciences to conduct independent research in their chosen fields. The fellowship is not limited to any region and accepts applications from talented young scholars from across the world. Applicants from non-Western countries and underrepresented genders are strongly encouraged to apply.

The fellowship seeks applications from talented scholars who have completed their PhDs with a research focus on cultural and social diversity, creativity, cultural heritage, and public resistance. The program is highly competitive; scholars with outstanding achievements are encouraged to apply. Candidates may apply for one semester or a full academic year; a semester lasts 4 months, and the full academic year is 10 months. The fellowship offers an incredible opportunity for scholars to conduct independent research alongside renowned faculty in the institute’s state-of-the-art research facilities.

Fellowship Period

Applicants can apply for a single semester or a full academic year:

  • Autumn Semester: 1 September 2027 – 17 December 2027
  • Spring Semester: 11 January 2028 – 16 June 2028
  • Full Academic Year: 1 September 2027 – 16 June 2028

Eligiblity Criteria

  • Open to all nationalities; however, applicants from underrepresented genders and from non-Western countries are encouraged to apply
  • Completed a PhD or equivalent degree
  • Secured a degree 3 years before the application date
  • Researchers with an academic background in the humanities and social sciences
  • Independent researchers without affiliation with any institute can apply
  • Demonstrate excellent academic achievements in their desired fields
  • Research interests in the areas of social diversity, global cultural heritage, public resistance, and global cultural expression

How to Apply?

The application process is online via offical portal. Candidates meeting the required criteria must submit their application via the Varbi online application by no later than June 1st, 2026. Applicants will be notified about the results by February 28, 2027.
