A fully funded summer program for international students in Switzerland, offered by the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), invites applications from talented students enrolled in bachelor’s and first-year master’s degrees in biology, biophysics, chemistry, bioengineering, bioinformatics, quantitative biology, genetics, medical sciences, or another related life sciences field.
The program offers students an eight-week research stay, providing hands-on research experience under the supervision of EPFL researchers and faculty members. The summer research program will run from July 5 to August 27, 2027, at EPFL, an institute based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The program does not require an application fee. About EPFL Summer Research Programme 2027
It is one of the leading summer research programs for international students in Europe and offers students an exceptional opportunity to experience firsthand research in the School of Life Sciences at EPFL. The program aims to provide students with a practical laboratory experience and help them understand what a future research career looks like.
The summer program will bring 20-25 students from around the world to participate in the research program and take part in personal development workshops, social activities, and scientific seminars. The program concludes with a symposium where participants will present their research.

Who can Apply?
You meet the following criteria to be eligible for the 2027 EPFL summer program:
- Open to students from around the world who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program
- Bachelor’s students must have completed 2 years of their degree program
- Master’s students must be in the first year of their degree program
- Completing their degree in biology, biophysics, chemistry, bioengineering, bioinformatics, quantitative biology, genetics, medical sciences, or another related life sciences field
- Have excellent academic achievements
- Interested in pursuing a career in the life sciences
- Must have a basic understanding of the life sciences
- No prior research experience required
Program Coverage
EPFL covers all the costs of participants related to the programme:
- A stipend of CHF 3,600
- Accommodation in Lausananne
- Travel reimbursement of up to CHF 1,000 for overseas flights
- Travel reimbursement of up to CHF 500 for shorter-distance travel
