Here is an exciting opportunity: applications are open for the Max Planck Visiting Researchers Program 2027. This prestigious visiting researcher program, hosted by the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (MPIfG) in Cologne, Germany, is designed for professors, postdoctoral researchers, and doctoral researchers working in economic sociology or comparative and international political economy. The research stay lasts 2-12 months, during which selected visiting researchers will work on their research projects in an international research environment. About Max Planck Visiting Researchers Programme

The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies is one of Germany’s leading research institutes, examining how modern societies are governed and the relationship between social, economic, and political action. Selected visiting researchers will spend time at the institute and develop a research project aligned with the MPifG research areas.

Who Can Apply?

Candidates meeting the following criteria can apply

  • Open to both German and foreign researchers
  • Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, as well as professors working in economic sociology or comparative and international political economy
  • The proposed research project must align with the MPIfG research program

Research Proposal

Applicants must submit a research proposal of no more than 3 pages that explains the research project they will work on during their stay. Applicants must also indicate their preferred MPIfG director or research group leader in the application.

Is the Program Fully Funded?

No, the MPifG does not provide support for the visiting stay. Applicants must arrange their own funding and submit a funding plan. Selected researchers will receive a letter of invitation that can be used to approach the funding organizations.
