Applications are open for the UN Biodiversity Conference 2026. And guess what? Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is pleased to announce its flagship in-person biodiversity fellowships, a prestigious program that provides an opportunity for talented journalists from eligible regions to attend and report from the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UNBD COP17), scheduled for October 19-30, 2026, in Yerevan, Armenia. The selected fellows will be required to attend the full duration of the conference.
The fellowship is seeking applications from professional journalists working at professional media houses and reporting from low- or middle-income countries as classified or listed by the World Bank, with demonstrated experience reporting on biodiversity issues. The fellows will receive generous support to attend the conference. The coverage includes non-refundable economy-class airfare, accommodation, meals, travel insurance, and more. About the Fellowship
It’s a prestigious, fully funded fellowship program jointly organized by the Earth Journalism Network in partnership with Biodiversity Focus Organization. The fellowship aims to support professional journalists from eligible regions in attending COP17 in Yerevan, Armenia, or reporting directly from the conference. COP17 is a unique conference that brings together government officials, scientists, and policymakers from across the world to define strategies to address biodiversity loss and protect ecosystems.

Conference Dates
Selected fellows will attend the conference as per the following schedule:

Who can Apply?
To be eligible for the biodiversity fellowships, you must meet the following criteria:
- Professional Journalists representing an established media house.
- Reporting from a low or middle-income country as classified by the World Bank.
- Have experience covering environmental and biodiversity issues.
- Demonstrate strong story ideas related to COP17.
- Excellent English communication skills.
- Provide a supporting document from an editor, producer, or media organization.
- Submit your work samples related to biodiversity work.
- Freelance journalists can also apply if they can provide a letter of support from a media outlet willing to publish their reporting.
Selection Criteria
Selection is based on the following factors:

- Experience reporting on environmental issues
