The World Health Organization (WHO) has opened applications for its Health Emergencies Internship 2026 at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It’s a full-time, 6-month internship program that will run from October 5 to March 19, 2026.

The program offers students and recent graduates an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in global epidemics while working with experts in medical countermeasures, infectious diseases, and emergency health response. About Internship

It’s a prestigious internship opportunity offered within the WHO’s Medical Countermeasures (MCM) Unit. The internship offers students and recent graduates an excellent opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to WHO’s work. The internship is intended for students enrolled in a university degree or who have graduated within the last 18 months in Medicine, Biology, Public Health, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Information Sciences, Health Sciences, or related disciplines.

Internship Coverage

WHO Interns will receive the following support for the duration of the internship:

  • A comprehensive living allowance of:
    • CHF 1,680 per month for interns residing outside Geneva.
    • CHF 739 per month for interns residing in Geneva.
  • Daily Meals allowance.
  • Medical Insurance.
  • Accidental Insurance.

Who can Apply?

You must meet the following criteria:

  • Accepting applications from all nationalities.
  • Undergraudate students enrolled in the final year of the degree programme.
  • Currently enrolled or have graduated within the last 18 months.
  • Academic background in  Medicine, Public Health, Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Biochemistry, Medical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Information Sciences, Statistics, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, or Related scientific disciplines.
  • Proficiency in the English language.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Intern Role

  • Collect, organize, and analyze scientific data.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports
  • Support the development of guidance documents and manuals.
  • Help organize international workshops and conferences
  • Participate in projects related to pandemic preparedness and response.

Learning Outcome

  • Understand WHO’s pandemic preparedness framework.
  • Learn how global medical countermeasure systems operate.
  • Hands-on experience in technical reporting and policy analysis
  • Gain exposure to international public health coordination.
