Tokyo Biennale Residence Program 2025 “Social Dive” (Fully Funded)

To all the artists out there, we are here with an exciting, fully funded residence programme in Japan that you should not miss out on. You heard it right! Applications are open for the Tokyo Biennale Residence Program 2025. Tokyo Biennale is calling for applications for the third edition of the residency programme taking place in Tokyo, Japan, between September and October 2025. The residence program evolves around the theme “Shall we “Sanpo”? Sanpo means discovering new perspectives through movements.

Artists from all around the world are invited to submit an application and have an opportunity to dive into the vibrant city of Tokyo and engage with the society members. During the programme, the participants will have an opportunity to explore different areas of Tokyo as part of the project and discover unique traditions and values held by the community that lives there. The selected participants must be willing to stay in Tokyo, Japan, during the programme to present their work at Tokyo Binalle. A fully funded program in Japan that covers air travel expenses, Accommodation, Project allowance, stipend, with other perks and benefits. The application for the residency programme needs to be made online – all interested applicants need to submit their application by May 2nd,2025.

Program Support:

The residence provide following coverage to the selected participants:

  • Airtravel coverage up to 300,000 JPY
  • Accommodation in Tokyo for the duration of program
  • Access to venue for art program
  • Allowance of  200,000 JPY for project development
  • One time allowance 100,000JPY
  • Translation support during the program

Eligiblity Criteria

  • Applicants meeting the following criteria are eligible
  • The residence program is inviting application from all nationals
  • Applicants holding Japanese citizenship cannot apply
  • Applicants Aged more than 18 years old are eligible to apply
  • Commited to attend the programme during the program dates
  • Present their work at the Tokyo Biennale opening

  • Applicants profile photo up to 1Mb
  • A self introductory statement not exceeding 500 words
  • An updated CV, Portfolio and Biography and pastwork
  • Explanation for you proposed art project
  • Project Schedule
  • Budget sheet
  • Create a 2 minute video features your artwork
  • Portfolio
