The Government of Taiwan has finally announced the call for applications for its flagship MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Programme 2027. A fully funded fellowship program established by the Government of Taiwan offers an incredible opportunity for outstanding scholars and researchers from across the world to conduct advanced research in cross-strait relations, Taiwan, the Asia-Pacific region, and Sinology at leading academic or research institutes in Taiwan.
The fellowship is seeking applications from professors, associate professors, researchers, and doctoral students from related departments at foreign institutes. The MOFA fellowship lasts 3-12 months, during which participants will engage in cutting-edge research in a state-of-the-art environment. Since its establishment, it has awarded up to 1500 fellowships to aspiring scholars from over 90 countries. No application fee is required to apply for the program. The application window for the year 2027 is May 1 to June 30, 2026. Fellowship Coverage
It’s a fully funded fellowship by the Government of Taiwan. The fellows will receive the following support:
- Fellows recieve monthly grants for the duration of the program:
- Professors, research fellows, and associate professors receive: NT$60,000
- Doctoral students, assistant professors, and post-doctoral researchers receive: NT$50,000.
- Round-trip airfare coverage to and from Taiwan
- Medical Insurance for accidental injuries
Who can Apply?
To be eligible for the Taiwan MOFA fellowship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Accepting applications from all Foreign nationals
- Taiwanese nationals are not eligible to apply
- The fellowship is intended for university professors, Associate/assistant professors, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, Doctoral students, and research fellows at academic institutes
- Applicants must be affiliated with a recognized academic and research institute outside Taiwan
- Demonstrate a strong research background
- The proposed research project should be related to the cross-strait relations, Taiwan, the Asia-Pacific region, and Sinology
- Strong English communication skills
- NO IELTS/TOEFL required

How to Apply?
The application process for the MOFA Taiwan fellowship is online via the offical portal. Applicants meeting the fellowship requirement need to visit the official website below, complete their online registration, and upload the required documents.
After completing the application, print your entire form and mail it with supporting documents to the Taiwan Embassy or representative office in your home country.
