UNU Science Policy Visiting Fellowship 2026 in Geneva (CHF 5,500/month)

Applications are invited for the UNU Science Policy Visiting Fellowship 2026, a prestigious program hosted by the United Nations University that enables talented researchers from the Global South to gain hands-on research experience at world-leading institutions. The Science Policy Visiting Fellowship is a joint initiative of UNU CPR and the Geneva Science Policy Interface, aimed at strengthening the science policy interface in Geneva by connecting researchers, research institutes, and the diplomatic community. It is a full-time position lasting 6 months in Geneva, Switzerland, with an expected start date no later than mid-July 2026. Extensions are not possible. During the fellowship, fellows will engage in research and analysis, science policy engagement, and knowledge development, and will perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

 

The fellowship seeks applications from PhD holders with professional work experience in relevant fields, including economics or business, policy and governance, and data and computational fields. The host organization strongly encourages applications from women. The fellowship does not require an application fee at any stage of the application process. Applicants who meet the required criteria must submit their application online by June 17th, 2026. Who can Apply?

To apply for the UN University science policy visiting fellows program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • The fellowship position is limited to citizens of the Global South
  • Holding a PhD degree in the relevant field, such as economics or business, policy and governance, data and computational fields
  • Must possess professional experience in the above-mentioned fields
  • Demonstrate strong interest in the intersection of policy, science & technology
  • Able to produce policy-oriented and analytical reports for audiences
  • Can work independently with diverse stakeholders
  • Able to work in an interdisciplinary work environment
  • Fluency in the English language, both spoken and written
  • Knowledge of any other official UN language would be an assett

Fellowship Coverage

The fellows are offered generous support for the duration of the fellowship:

  • Fellows will receive a generous support of CHF 5,500/month
  • Round-trip airfare coverage to/from Geneva
  • Allowance of CHF 3000 to cover health insurance and other expenses

Fellow’s Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Head of Office, UNU-CPR Geneva fellows will assist with the following responsibilities:

  • Develop policy-relevant, analytical report
  • Engage with development actors in Geneva
  • Provide presentations to inform ongoing discussion on data governance
  • Assist with organizing 1-2 workshops to bring together experts, diplomats, and civil society actors
  • Attend the events and workshops
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor
