Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, through its official portal, has announced a call for applications for its flagship “ETH Zurich Summer Research Fellowship 2026” and is seeking applications from talented and motivated students from around the world.

A prestigious research fellowship program hosted by the Computer Science Department of ETH Zurich offers an exceptional opportunity to undergraduate and graduate students to gain hands-on research experience in the areas of computer science at ETH Zurich, one of the leading public universities in Switzerland known for research and innovation in the areas of sciences, engineering, and mathematics. The duration of the “ETH Student Summer Research Fellowship (ETH SSRF)” is 2 months, during which the fellows will experience cutting-edge research in computer sciences under the supervision of ETH faculty.

The research opportunities are available in a wide range of areas covering Machine Learning, Computer systems, and information security, Human-computer interaction, and more. The Research Fellowship is open to all nationals except students who are already enrolled at ETH Zurich. The fellowship is scheduled to take place from July 1 to August 31, 2026, at ETH Zurich. Beyond full-time research, the fellowship also offers students an opportunity to explore the vibrant culture of Zurich in the summer and witness the beauty of the mountainous landscape in their spare time.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The fellowship is accepting applications from all nationalities
  • Students enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s degrees with an expected graduation date two months after the 2-month fellowship are eligible.
  • Bachelor’s students must have completed 2 academic years of their degree
  • Pursuing a degree in computer sciences or related fields such as mathematics, physics, and technology.
  • Willing to attend the entire two-month fellowship
  • Proficiency in the English language (Evidence of language proficiency is not required)
  • Students must have a strong academic record and an interest in research

Fellowship Coverage

The ETH Summer Research program offers generous support to fellows, which includes:

  • A competetive monthly stipend of CHF 4,000 to cover living expenses

How to Apply?

1. Explore the research areas:
  • Start by exploring the faculty members and their research topics in the host labs.
  • Indicate two preferred research areas of your choice in the application
  • Participants must have background knowledge through projects or courses in their preferred research areas.
2. Create an Account in SiROP:

The applications are accepted via the SiRoP application portal. Create an account, start with your online application form. Fill all the required details, and prepare the following documents in PDF

3. Required Documents:
  • An updated CV in Europass format
  • Academic transcript of home institution
  • If the GPA of the first master’s degree semester is not announced, you can mention the GPA of your final bachelor’s degree.
  • Letter of Motivation or personal statement (1 Page)
