Maastricht University NL High Potential Scholarship 2027-28 (Fully Funded)

Study in the Netherlands, Fully Funded – Applications are open for the Maastricht University NL High Potential Scholarship 2027-28. This fully funded scholarship program, offered by Maastricht University, is designed for students from outside the EU/EEA to pursue a full-time Master’s degree in participating programs at Maastricht University. The program offers 18 fully funded awards per academic year, covering full tuition fees, a living stipend, health insurance, monthly stipends, pre-academic training costs, and more. About Maastricht University NL Scholarship 

The NL-High Potential scholarship at Maastricht University is a highly competitive and prestigious scholarship program to study a fully funded master’s degree in the Netherlands. The scholarship combines both the NL scholarship, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, and the High Potential scholarship, funded by the institute itself.

The objective of the NL-High Potential scholarship is to attract global talent from outside the European Union and foster academic collaboration between the Netherlands and the participating countries.

Degree Duration:

  • One-Year Master’s Programme: 13 months
  • Two-Year Master’s Programme: 25 months

Eligiblity Criteria

Applicants meeting the following criteria to apply for the scholarship:

  • Non-EU & EEA nationals are eligible to apply
  • Meet  Dutch entry visa and residence permit requirements.
  • Applicants must not hold a dual nationality with any EU/EEA country
  • Meet the admission requirements of their chosen Master’s programme.
  • Previously did not participate in a higher education degree in the Netherlands
  • Applicants must be 35 years old or younger on 1 September 2027.
  • Demonstrate excellent academic achievements
  • Preference is given to applicants who have not obtained a master’s degree
  • Agree to become active UM ambassadors during and after their studies.

How to Apply for Maastricht University (UM) NL-High Potential Scholarship?

Applicants meeting the above requirements need to follow the following steps to apply for the scholarship:

Step 1: Apply for the Participating Master’s Programme

Applicants are required to apply to one of the eligible master’s programmes for the 2027-28 year. Applicants must submit their study application via the Studielink portal. Once you have applied, you will receive a UM Student ID number, which is required to access the scholarship application.

Step 2: Apply for the scholarship

Use your UM account to complete the separate NL-High Potential Scholarship application form and upload all required documents.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents for the scholarship:

  1. Motivation letter (use mandatory institute template)
  2. CV not exceeding max 2 pages
  3. Official degree transcript
  4. Statement of financial needs
  5. Reference letters
  6. Contact details of one referee

Deadline: Scholarship applications must be submitted by February 1st, 2027. Results will be announced by late April or early May 2027.
