Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat Trainee Programme 2026 | Fully Funded

Call for Trainees – Applications are open for the Mekong-Lancang Peace Boat Trainee Programme 2026. This fully funded traineeship, funded by the People’s Republic of China under its Mekong-Lancang Cooperation initiative and implemented through the Asian Vision Institute (AVI), is aimed at talented researchers, government officials, policymakers, and scholars from China, Myanmar, Thailand, Lao PDR, and Vietnam to enhance their skills and broaden their understanding of Mekong Affairs. The traineeship also aims to foster international relations and cultural understanding for peace and harmony.

It’s a one-week intensive training program scheduled for August 5 to 11, 2026, aboard a cruise ship on the Mekong River in Cambodia. The Government of China covers all program-related expenses for participants, including round-trip air travel, visa, one week of accommodation on a cruise ship, and other perks and benefits. Who can Apply?

The People’s Republic of China is seeking applications from:

  • Citizens of Myanmar, Lao PDR, Cambodia, China, Vietnam & Thailand
  • Must be currently residing or working in the above-mentioned eligible countries
  • Aimed at Scholars, policymakers, government officials, journalists, and researchers
  • Related to the field of international relations, social studies, political science, or related fields.
  • Age must be between 20 and 40 years old at the time of applications
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in Mekong relations affairs
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • All trainees must commit to full-time participation during the traineeship dates
  • Must be willing to return to their home country upon program completion

Coverage

The trainees will recieve following coverage:

  • Round-trip airfare support to/from Cambodia
  • Visa expenses
  • Accommodation & Meals
  • Transportation costs
  • Any other costs related to the program

Traineeship Structure

The selected participants will have a hands-on learning experience through the following activities:

International Relations Training: 

The participants will engage in interactive training and discussion to have a deeper knowledge of Mekong affairs and international relations

Soft Skills Training:

Participants will engage in an interactive session to enhance their interpersonal skills in areas related to Conflict resolution, leadership, and negotiation

Exchange Experience:

Beyond training, trainees will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in Cambodian culture through community immersion and cultural activities

Knowledge Sharing:

Trainees will share their knowledge through a sharing session
