The application window for one of the most anticipated fully funded fellowships in Taiwan is closing soon! Applications are open for the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Programme 2027, a prestigious fellowship established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China, Taiwan. The fellowship allows ambitious researchers from across the world to conduct research at leading research institutes in Taiwan. The program enables foreign scholars to gain hands-on research experience while conducting groundbreaking research in areas related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, the Asia-Pacific region, and sinology, energy, undersea cables, and more.

The application window for the fellowship program opens each year from May until the end of June, and fellows are expected to conduct their research from January 2027 onward. The fellowship typically lasts 3-12 months. Each fellow will receive a competitive monthly grant to cover their living expenses during their stay in Taiwan. No application fee is required. About MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Programme

It is one of the most anticipated international fellowship programs hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Taiwan) and offers an incredible opportunity for ambitious researchers from around the world to conduct research at advanced research universities in Taiwan. Since its establishment, it has awarded up to 1500 fellowships to aspiring scholars from over 90 countries. The fellowship aims to support talented researchers in conducting research in Taiwan and to foster research collaboration between Taiwan and the participating countries.

Fellowship Coverage

It’s a fully funded fellowship by the Government of Taiwan. The fellows will receive the following support:

  • Fellows recieve competitive grant paid at the beginning of each month.
  • Professors, research fellows, and associate professors receive: NT$60,000.
  • Doctoral students, assistant professors, and post-doctoral researchers receive: NT$50,000.
  • Round-trip economy class airfare coverage.
  • Medical Insurance for accidental injuries coverage up to NT$1 million.

Who can Apply?

To be eligible for the Taiwan MOFA fellowship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Accepting applications from all Foreign nationals.
  • Taiwanese nationals are not eligible to apply.
  • The fellowship is intended for university professors, Associate/assistant professors, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, Doctoral students, and research fellows at academic institutes.
  • Must be affiliated with a recognized academic or research institute outside Taiwan.
  • Demonstrate a strong research background.
  • The proposed research project should be related to the cross-strait relations, Taiwan, the Asia-Pacific region, and Sinology.
  • Strong English communication skills.
  • NO IELTS/TOEFL required.
