The applications are open to apply for the Swedish Institute (SI) Scholarship for the 2026 Autumn intake. One of the prestigious scholarship programmes hosted by the Swedish Institute and funded by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The scholarship offers an opportunity to outstanding students from eligible developing countries (currently 33 countries) to pursue a full-time 1-2 year master’s degree program in Governance, Public Health, Entrepreneurship, and STEM fields at one of the participating Swedish higher education institutions.

Eligible Countries

The citizens of the following 33 countries are eligible to apply for the SI scholarship:

Eligiblity Criteria

  • Applicants meeting the following criteria are invited to apply;
  • Must be a citizen of one of the eligible countries mentioned above
  • Secure admission to the master’s degree program, eligible for the SI scholarship
  • Individuals must possess an excellent academic record
  • Demonstrated work experience in the related area
  • Have leadership potential and commitment to bring positive change in their communities

Ineligibility:

  • Students already pursuing their degree program at the Swedish Institute
  • Already residing in Sweden for two or more years
  • Previously been awarded the Swedish Institute scholarship

Required Documents:

Applicants need to upload the following documents for the SI scholarship:

  1. An updated Resume/CV
  2. Proof of leadership experience
  3. Two letters of reference
  4. Copy of National ID/Passport
  5. Motivation letter
  6. Note: All the above documents must be submitted in the English language

Important Dates:

  • Masters Admissions: October 15th, 2025 – January 15, 2026
  • Scholarship Application: February 9-25, 2026
  • Screening: Feb-March, 2026
  • Scholarship Announcement: March 2026 – April 2026

How to Apply?

The application process for the Swedish Institutes is managed through University Admissions, a centralized application portal, where you can apply up to 4 master’s degree programmes. Follow the following steps to apply

Applying for a Master’s Degree

  • Step 1: Visit UniversityAdmissions.se and apply for the eligible English-taught master’s degree program for Autumn 2026 by January 15th, 2026. 
  • Step 2: Once your application is submitted, you will receive an application number that consists of 8 digits. Save your number, later you will require it for the SI scholarship application.

Applying for the SI Scholarship

  • Applicants who have secured admission can now apply for the SI scholarship. The application portal opens on February 9th till February 25, 2026. Complete your scholarship application and provide the documents mentioned above.

Important: The scholarship encourages applicants not to wait for the last date for the submission of the application. Due to the high volume, the application portal may not work properly.

Can we apply for the master’s program at the Swedish Institute?

  • No! The Swedish Institute is a government organization, not an institute. You need to secure admission to one of the Swedish Universities.

Can I apply for any master’s program and become eligible for the scholarship?

  • No! You can only apply for an eligible master’s program. The list of eligible programs will be available on November 1st, 202,5 in the call for applications.

How to Apply for the Master’s Program?

Is there any application fee for the scholarship?

  • There is no application fee associated with the scholarship application; however, you need to pay an application fee for university admission.
