HKU CDS Research Internship 2026 in Hong Kong – Paid

To all ambitious students in computer science or related fields seeking international research internships, what could be better than gaining real-time research experience before graduation at one of Hong Kong’s leading research institutes as an intern? Sounds exciting, right? Here is an exciting opportunity. Hong Kong University School of Computing and Data Science is pleased to announce the call for applications for its flagship “HKU CDS Research Internship 2026” and invites applications from outstanding undergraduate students pursuing degrees in computer science, AI, and data science, or related fields, from China or other overseas countries to experience cutting-edge research at the frontier of science and innovation.

The CDS research internship offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in a state-of-the-art research setting and to gain exposure to the institute’s postgraduate programs. It’s a paid internship program. Selected interns will receive a total stipend of HK$19,601. The duration of the CDS research internship is 1 month, running from July 19 to August 31st, 2026. The internship dates can be further negotiated with the host supervisor. No application fee is required. The last date to submit your online application is May 31st, 2026. Interns can collaborate with the supervisor across the above 5 domains.

Who can Apply?

Applicants fulfilling the following criteria are invited to submit their applications for the CDS research internship:

  • Accepting applications from all nationalities
  • Currently enrolled in the 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate degree programme
  • Final year students are not eligible to apply
  • Academic discipline in computer science, AI, Data Science, Statistics, or related fields
  • Pursuing their degrees in Hong Kong, China, or any other overseas countries
  • Commit to full-time in-person participation during the internship dates

How to Apply?

Applicants interested in the HKU Research Internship must first secure a host supervisor. You can find the faculty list and identify 1–3 professors whose research interests align with yours. Then, email them to inquire whether they would be willing to supervise you during the summer.

Once you have secured a host supervisor, visit the official HKU CDS website and complete the application form.
