A fully funded scholarship for international students, offered by the Government of Korea through the National Institute for International Education (NIIED), provides talented students from around the world with the opportunity to pursue full-time undergraduate or associate degree programs at leading participating higher education institutions in South Korea.
It is one of the most prestigious and competitive scholarships for international students, designed to bring talented students from around the world to study in Korea. For the 2027 session, the program offers approximately 286 scholarships across multiple tracks. Selected students will receive comprehensive support, including tuition, Korean language training, airfare, a monthly allowance, and more. The program does not require IELTS or TOEFL. About Global Korea Scholarship
The GKS scholarship is a flagship scholarship program of the Government of Korea designed for talented international students to study full-time bachelor’s or associate degree programs at leading higher education institutions in Korea.
For Academic Year 2027, the program is offering scholarships for associate and bachelor’s degree programs. A bachelor’s degree usually consists of 1 year of Korean language training plus 4-6 years of study, while the associate degree consists of 1 year of Korean language plus 2-3 years of study.
The GKS program aims to promote academic exchange and strengthen relationships between Korea and participating countries.
Scholarships Available
The 2027 GKS-U program will award a total of 286 scholars.
Embassy Track
The track consists of three categories
- General: 88 scholarships
- R-GKS: 61 scholarships
- Overseas Koreans: 7 Scholarships
In total, 156 Embassy Track scholarships are available under the Embassy Track
University Track
- Associate Program: 30 scholarships
- UIC Program: 100 scholarships
In total, 130 scholarships are available under the University Track.
Who can Apply?
Candidates meeting the following criteria are invited to apply for the GKS-U scholarship:
- Open to Citizens of countries designated by NIIED for the GKS program
- Applicants holding Korean nationality are not eligible
- Applicants must be under 25 years of age at the time of application
- Have completed a high school or associate degree program
- Candidates already holding a bachelor’s degree are not eligible
- Candidates expected to complete their degree by December 31, 2026, can apply
- Academic requirements:
- 80% or higher on a 100-point scale
- Rank within the top 20% of their class
- CGPA of at least 2.64/4.0
- CGPA of at least 2.80/4.3
- CGPA of at least 2.91/4.5
- CGPA of at least 3.23/5.0

2. University Track:
Applicants can apply directly to the participating institute. Under this track, students can apply to only one university or one department.
